Rules – Roadrunner

1. RULE BOOK DISCLAIMER

a) The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events.
b) By participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules as interpreted by each speedway for their event(s). NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OR SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND/OR REGULATIONS.
c) The rules are intended as a guideline for the conduct and technical measurements of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against any degree of injury to a participant, spectator or official. The track officials shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviations from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in their opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements. NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is at the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final.

2. GENERAL RULES

a) All cars must have wrecker hookup.
b) All cars should have 5 pound minimum fire extinguisher in reach of driver.
c) All drivers should wear flame retardant fire suit, shoes and gloves.
d) Window nets are highly recommended for all cars.
e) No radios, communication equipment or mirrors permitted, including pit boards.
f) No computer controlled equipment.
g) All parts specified as OEM/stock manufactured must be standard option parts or equivalent aftermarket parts and must be readily available from car dealer or any auto parts store.
h) Casting numbers must remain on all OEM/stock parts.
i) TRACK COMMUNICATION
j) RACEceivers
k) RKMC will be using WESTHOLD TRANSPONDERS (YELLOW). Please make sure to have a transponder mounted on your car in the appropriate location.

3. MODEL CARS

a) 4-cylinder front wheel drive passenger cars only.
b) No type of truck, jeep, station wagon, or 4 wheel drive.
c) No convertibles, t-tops or open sunroofs.

4. MOTOR

a) 4-cylinder motors only.
b) Motor must be same size and model as original factory equipment for make and model of car.
c) All motor components must remain STOCK except fuel pump may be modified to mechanical pump.
d) Motor mounts can be reinforced, but must remain stock rubber.
e) No solid mounting.
f) Fuel injection permitted if stock on make and model.
g) No turbo’s motors.

5. BODY

a) Body panels must be stock manufactured and must be stock appearing at all points.
b) All glass, plastic, chrome, and flammable materials should be removed.
c) Side mirrors must be removed; rear-view mirror is optional.
d) Dashboard may remain intact.
e) Doors should be welded or bolted closed.
f) Stock appearing bumpers in stock location and should have smooth edges.
g) Trunk lid or hatch back must remain on car.
h) No cutting or chopping of body components except driver’s door may be hulled for roll cage and trunk may be cut only for fuel cell installation.
i) All holes in firewall should be covered with metal.
j) Full metal roof.
k) Sunroof opening may be sealed with sheet metal.

6. SPOILERS

Only factory spoilers permitted.

7. TIRES

a) DOT approved stock production passenger tires only.
b) 65, 70 or 75 series & over.
c) No racing, winter tread or rough tread tires.
d) No grooving or tire alterations.
e) Must have DOT number and manufacturer’s logo intact.
f) All 4 tires must be the same size.

8. WHEELS

a) Steel wheels only.
b) 13” or 14” wheels.
c) 15” wheels accepted if factory size for make and model.
d) 8” maximum width aftermarket wheels permitted if all 4 wheels are identical.
e) Right front wheel may be reinforced but must retain stock dimensions.
f) All wheels should be reinforced with washers and oversized or double lug nuts.

9. CARBURETOR

a) Carburetor must be stock for make and model or stock fuel injection permitted.
b) No modifications.
c) No turbo’s.

10. FUEL

a) Gasoline only.
b) No alcohol, nitrous oxide, nitro-methane, propylene oxide or additives.
c) Fuel lines should not pass through driver’s compartment.

11. DISTRIBUTOR

Distributor must be stock for make and model.

12. FRAME

a) Full stock front and rear frame.
b) No modifications permitted except unibody frames should be connected by minimum 2” wide x 3” high steel rectangular tubing connector rails with .120” minimum wall thickness.
c) Unibody connector rails should be connected to the back of the front snout and the front of the rear sub frame.
d) No holes may be cut in frame or connectors.

13. SUSPENSION

a) All suspension components must be stock production and in stock location.
b) One shock on each wheel.
c) No racing shocks or coilovers.
d) No weight jacks.

14. TRANSMISSION

a) Stock production front wheel drive transmission.
b) Must have working reverse gear.

15. BRAKES

a) All cars must have stock 4 wheel braking system.
b) Calipers and rotors must be steel.
c) No drilling or lightening of brake components.
d) No driver-adjustable brake systems.

16. INTAKE & EXHAUST

a) Exhaust manifolds must be stock.
b) Mufflers are required for all cars.

17. STEERING

a) Quick-release racing type steering wheel is recommended.
b) Steering shaft should be collapsible from factory.

18. STARTER AND BATTERY

a) All cars must be self starting.
b) Battery must be in stock position or can be relocated to a safe area in front of the rear axle.
c) Battery should be securely mounted to the floor in a steel battery box.
d) Battery should not be in driver compartment.
e) Battery disconnect kill switch to shut down motor and fuel pump highly recommended mounted in reach of driver and should be clearly labeled for safety crew.

19. ROLL CAGE

a) 4-post, box-type roll cage should be constructed with 1 ½” minimum outside diameter and .095 minimum thickness steel tubing.
b) Should have at least 3 horizontal bars at driver’s side door and 2 horizontal bars at passenger side door, extended outward into door panels.
c) 2 vertical bars between each horizontal bar as additional support are recommended.
d) Roll cage should extend forward on driver’s side to protect foot area completely.
e) Roll cage should be securely welded to the floor using plating and gussets.
f) For unibody frame rails roll cage should be securely welded to frame rails in at least 4 places.
g) Box frame may be constructed and securely welded to floor as roll cage foundation.
h) Roll cage should be welded together 360 degrees at all intersecting points.
i) 6-point roll cage is highly recommended with diagonal bars bracing roll cage at rear, and should run from frame to top of roll cage.
j) X-brace in roll cage behind driver is recommended.
k) Top of roll cage should be at least 2” above top of driver’s helmet.
l) Head rest recommended.
m) Front windshield opening should have bars or wire mesh.
n) Driver’s side window should have quick-release net.
o) All roll cage bars within reach of driver should be covered with non-flammable foam padding.
p) Other than padding, roll cage must remain exposed with no aerodynamic effects.
q) Driver’s door should be plated with 1/8” aluminum or steel plate.

20. GAS TANK/FUEL CELL

a) Fuel cell is HIGHLY recommended and should be securely mounted inside a 20 gauge metal box and secured to frame with a minimum of two 3” x 1/8” steel straps on each side.
b) If fuel cell is used, it should be located in the trunk area on all models.
c) Stock fuel tank in stock position or fuel cell.
d) Fuel tank should be securely strapped to frame and have no leaks.
e) For cars using a stock fuel tank, a 1/8” steel skid plate should cover the bottom of fuel tank and be securely mounted to frame.
f) The fuel pick up should be on the top or right side of the fuel cell, be constructed of steel and should have a check valve in case of roll over.

21. FIREWALLS AND INTERIOR

a) A full metal firewall constructed from 18 gauge steel or 1-1/8” thick aluminum should be joined to seal off driver compartment at front, rear, sides and floorboard.
b) Full metal floorboard.
c) Top of interior to top of doors should be 3” maximum.
d) Interior should be mounted flush with outside body panels.
e) 12” minimum interior clearance below roll cage at all points for easy exit.
f) Onboard fire suppression system recommended.

22. SEAT AND SAFETY BELT

a) Full containment, metal racing-approved seat with padded headrest should be securely attached to frame. 3”, 5, 6 or 7-point, quick release racing belt with double harness certified to SFI spec 16.1.
b) 7-point system is highly recommended.
c) Seat and belts should be mounted to the chassis with grade 5 or better hardware.
d) Mounts should run in the same direction to secure the belt.
e) Belt should not come in contact with sharp edges.
f) Safety belts should be replaced if 2 years old, and all worn or damaged safety belts should be replaced.
g) Quick-release, racing type steering should be used.

23. FIRE SUIT AND HELMET

a) Drivers should have flame retardant fire suit and racing approved full-face helmet with face shield.
b) Nomex shoes, socks, gloves, and hood highly recommended.
c) Head and neck restraint system and arm restraints recommended.

24. WEIGHT

No added weights.

They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator or official.
