MARKLEYSBURG, PA (May 1, 2010) – Roaring Knob hosted the first of three Shootout races (Super Lates/FASTRAK/Modifieds) in conjunction with Elkins Speedway on Saturday night. Tri-City Electric sponsored the Shootout. Taking his first career FASTRAK win was Rick Strickler while Gary Dalton (Super Lates) and Vic Vandergrift (Modifieds) won the three shootout mains. Brad Jenkins won the make-up Charger feature with Marty Spade, Jr. taking the nightcap event. Mike Duritsky came home with the Street Stock checker. Five feature events, plus one make up feature, were all in the books by 10:20.

The night got started with a make-up feature for the TC Race Car Parts Chargers from last week. Lemont Furnace’s Brad Jenkins started outside the front row and grabbed the lead at the drop of the green. Jenkins kept Jerry Walters, Jr. at bay for all 12-laps to take his second career win. Walters finished ahead of Marty Spade, Jr., Kyle Burkholder, Kenny Burkholder, JT Baird, Bus Matthews, Justin Howell, CJ Nicola and Ryan Newman. Ryan Newman and Spade were the heat winners last week.

The first regular feature of the night was for the Brooks Auto Group FASTRAK Late Models. Former Modified ace Rick Strickler, of Morgantown, WV, wasted no time taking the lead from his pole starting spot. Strickler was smooth throughout the 20-lap event while being drafted by Troy Shields from green to checker. Shields gave his best shot coming up one spot short at the checker. Mike Lewis was third over Rick Meglaye (from 24th ), John Over, Kirby Tucker (from 20th ), Cody Hardesty, Kevin Keene, Garry Sisson and Jim Bryce. Over, Shields and Strickler were the heat winners for the 26 cars on hand.

Bob Nelson led the first five laps of the Bobby Lake Motorsports 15-lap Street Stock A-Main. Nelson drifted up in turn two and that was Uniontown’s Mike Duritsky needed. Duritsky blew by and check out on the field for his first win this season in the non-stop event. Jim Bendishaw, Jr. drove home second ahead of Nelson, Todd Dennis and Tom Newman. Sixth through tenth were Josh Bendishaw, Scott Spade, Chris Lucy, Barry Faris and Charlie McClain. Duritsky and Dennis claimed qualifying heats.

Teenager Keith Jackson and veteran Gary Dalton (Morgantown, WV) started on the front row of the 25-lap Jack’s Recycling Super Late Model feature. Jackson took the lead at the start of the feature showing the Dalton the fast way around. Dalton bided his time for a couple of laps and then took the youngster to school with an outside pass to take the lead on laps four. From there Dalton was never challenged taking his 40th career win at the track. Jackson remained in second over ninth starting Mel Minnick, Jr., Ron Delano, Jr. and Tim Senic. Bob Gordon, Jeff Ferguson, Shaun Poling, Danny Pugh and Mark Booth completed the top ten. Heat wins went to Jim Kutas and Ron Delano, Jr.

Fairmont, WV’s Vic Vandergrift showed why he is the leading feature winner in the Melvin’s Automatic Transmission Service Modifieds at Roaring Knob. Luck of the draw put him on the pole and after a brief challenge from Louie Krushansky, Vandergrift was long gone in claiming his first win of the season. Krushansky was a distant second over Nolan Dalton, Nick Cramer, Mike Murphy, Dennis Perigo, Bobby Bennett, Bruce Dreistadt, Nathan Baker and Josh Cramer. Vandergrift and Murphy won the two heats.

The final event of the night was the second TC Race Car Parts Charger main. The “Farmington Flyer”, Marty Spade, Jr. was chased by the Burkholder brothers en route to his first win this season. First Kyle Burkholder drafted the back bumper of Spade’s Thunderbird until he looped it on lap nine. Then his older brother Kenny took up the chase the final three laps but came up short to finish second. Jerry Walter, Jr., Justin Howell and Kyle Burkholder (from the tail) were the top five. CJ Nicola, Dylan Higbee, JT Baird, Chas Coddington and Bus Matthews filled out the top ten. Spade and Kyle Burkholder were the heat winners.
