MARKLEYSBURG, PA (May 29, 2010) - Morgantown, WV's Deana Groves out raced four-time winner Vic Vandergrift to score here career first Melvin's Automatic Transmission Modified win. Gary Dalton and Doug Horton split the Jack's Recycling Super Late Model features. Marty Spade, Jr. (TC Race Car Parts Chargers) and Jim Bendishaw, Jr. (Bobby Lake Motorsports Street Stocks) picked up their second feature wins of 2010 while Rick Meglaye won his third in the Brooks Automotive Group FASTRAK Late Models.
The Jack's Recycling Super Late Model makeup feature from April 24 got the night started. Gary Dalton used his pole starting spot to take the initial lead. Dalton looked to be a sure winner as he opened his lead over Doug Horton. A caution with six laps to go changed everything. On the restart Horton, of Bruceton Mills, WV, shot to the outside and passed Dalton for the lead. Horton held on to take his first win at the Knob this season making it five different winners in five races. Horton and Keith Jackson won the heats back in April.
In a race laden with numerous cautions, Youngwood's Ricky Meglaye led from start to finish to win his third 20-lap Brooks Automotive Group FASTRAK Late Model feature. The final laps saw Dusty Hamrick give Meglaye a challenge only to hold on for a runner-up finish. Rick Strickler was third over Jeremy Zufall (who was making his first start this season) and John Over. Completing the top ten was Tim Snare Jr., Billy Stile III, Mike Lewis, Bobby Cossell and Russell Baird, Jr. Heat winners were Lewis and Over.
Bobby Lake Motorsports Street Stock point leader Jim Bendishaw, Jr. extended his lead with his second feature win this season. Bendishaw went green to checker to grab the win over John Redshaw, Marshall Coleman, Bob Nelson, Tom Newman, Mike Duritsky, Charlie McClain, Chris Lucy, Todd Dennis and Russell Baird, Sr. completed the top ten. Taking heat wins were Bendishaw and Redshaw.
The start of the 25-lap Jack's Recycling Super Late Model feature saw visitor Steve Everhart out muscle Morgantown's Gary Dalton for the lead at the start. Everhart led for two laps when Dalton powered back into the lead on a lap two restart. Once out front Dalton was gone. Horton took second on lap 13 and the stage was set for another showdown. Dalton approached some lap cars with two to go allowing Horton to close in. Dalton made up for his loss in the makeup feature to earn his second win of the season. Horton took home second over Everhart, Matt Cosner, Mel Minnick, Jr., LC Powers, Bob Gordon, Mark Booth, Danny Pugh and Jeff Ferguson. Dalton and Everhart grabbed heat wins.
Marty Spade, Jr. became the first driver to earn a second win in the TC Race Car Parts Chargers. Spade started on the front row and never looked back. Brad Jenkins was second over Jerry Walters, Jr., Kenny Burkholder, Buzz Coddington, Justin Howell, JT Baird, Bus Matthews and Kyle Burkholder. Spade and CJ Nicola were heat winners.
The final event of the night was for the Melvin's Automatic Transmission Center Modifieds and lady race Deana Groves parked her GRS Chassis in victory lane for her career first win. The second generation driver held off veteran Vic Vandergrift for the milestone win. Josh Cramer, Nick Cramer, Bobby Bennett and Josh Revel filled out the slim field. Groves also won her heat.
